What draws you to paganism?

I’m curious to hear about everyone else’s “first time”. The first time you caught a glimspe of Paganism. Whether it happened a month ago or 25 years ago, what happened at that moment for you to say “I’m home”.

Now I didn’t necessarily have an epiphany in fact, I think my story is a little boring. But I’m going to share it with you guys in hope of hearing your stories.

Alright so this story takes place 7 or 8 years ago, I’m not sure. I was around the age of 11 and I was just innocently browsing through a book store. I lived in a small town so we didn’t have anything like “Chapters” all we had was a small family-owned book shop. As I walking down the isles a book caught my eye. It was one of those tiny little books and it was called “the little book of spells” (or something like that). Now the book didn’t include anything “satanic” but I waited until I was by myself to buy it.

I brought it home and began reading the spells… They really didn’t interest me that much, what I really enjoyed were the correspondences in the back. That way I could make my own spells. It seemed that everytime I would do a certain spell I would get results.

Now that was my first experience. Three years later I was walking through yet another book store (and yes, this time it was a Chapters) and I found a book on Wicca. I’m pretty sure the book is called “the only wicca and spell book you will ever need”. Half the book is dedicated to spells and the other half to Wiccan theory. This book is probably what ”threw” me into this religion/way of thinking.

From that point I tried to get my hands on more books but since books cost money I decided to start downloading pagan podcasts. They really helped put a “human touch” on everything I had read in books and on the internet.

And it’s only now that I’m starting to feel comfortable with calling myself a Pagan. So when someone asks me how long I have been practicing I never know what to say. Is it from the day where I got my first book or the moment that I was no longer afraid to call myself Pagan? Either way, whether I’ve been practicing for 8 years or a few months I still feel new at this. And that’s what I love about Paganism there’s so much to learn that whether you’ve been pagan for a year or 20 years you still have so much to look forward to.

Blessed be!
